The Premier League is considering a proposal of handing out £12 million between 24 sides in the Championship, it has emerged today.
Vital Colchester understands, following an East Anglian Daily Times report, that this would mean Colchester United receiving around £600,000.
While a £50 million share-out was first considered, in order to bridge the massive financial gap between the Premiership and English Football`s second tier, it has now been agreed at a much lower rate of a combined £12 million.
This would help the rest of the Championship compete with the teams on parachute payments from the top-flight, which currently stand at £11 million for two years after relegation.
The report comes after a recent independent commission declared the play-off final football`s most valuable one-off game in word football, worth £60 million to the winner.
