7th Hell: U’s Target Top Six In 2009/10

Colchester United spelt our thier play-off ambitions this week when Chief Executive Steve Bradshaw said that would be the seaon’s “minimum” requirement.

Speaking in the EADT, Bradshaw explained the sqaud was being primed for a push to the top to match the ambitions of owner and chirman, Robbie Cowling, in bringing the side back to the Championship.

“We will have one of the biggest squads in the division, to match the chairman’s ambition. Finishing in sixth spot (last play-off spot) would be the minimum for success next season.”

The U’s have already made five signings this summer, as well as selling Mark Yeates and Dean Gerken and the club are expected to move for a striker before close season is over.

“It is likely that one or two players will leave before the start of the season, because it’s difficult to keep everyone happy with a squad bigger than 24 or 25,” added Bradshaw.

Jamie Guy and Scot Vernon, who could move to Carlisle as a swap for thier goalie Ben Williams, have been suggested as next to depart

“People tend to get very down if they are not in the team, or the 16-man squad. It can have an adverse effect of their careers, to spend a year in the reserves,” Badshaw expalined.

The club the next League One season away at rivals Norwich City.

Will the U’s get a top-six spot?
