Injury victim Ashley Vincent is moving closer to a U’s return after a frustrating five-month period out of action.

The Colchester United attacker – who started the season in blistering form – injured his ankle back in September. At first, it seemed nothing serious, however, scans revealed a long-spell on the sidelines awaited for Vincent.

‘I’m hoping to be available for the reserves soon and after that I’ll be at the manager’s disposal,’ Vincent, speaking in the EADT, explained.

Vincent, 24, will face a tough fight to get back on the pitch for the U’s first team, with competition for places at an all-time high.

He added: ‘I’ve been training with the boys in the morning and working hard on my fitness in the afternoons. I feel really good and am itching to get back.’

It will be great to see you back in action, Ashley!
