Nine games remain for Colchester United to capitalise on their constant top-six placing in League One this season and boss Aidy Boothroyd says ahead of tomorrow`s Wycombe tie that anything is still possible.

The Essex side are without a win in their last five, but Boothroyd draw first upon in-form Millwall`s record and then the slump suffered by Leeds as a positive assessment of United`s own placing at this point in the campaign, with a view to challenging for promotion

He told the official website: “63 points from 36 games is a pretty good stat; you live in the shadow of what you`ve done before. If we`d won the last 10 games and were still on 63 points, we`d all say what a great season we were having, but it`s a wobble. You have to adjust.”

Friday`s loan addition to the squad, Franck Queudrue from Birmingham, will be seen as proactive adjustment and speaking before that transfer was confirmed, Aidy yesterday added: “What`s happened, until now, is history. We`ve got games left now to make sure there`s a few pictures around here with new faces on and of open-top busses. I`m still confident. I think we`ve got more than enough to finish the job off.”

The former Watford boss knows what it feels like to win promotion, and do current squad veterans Kem Izzet and John White. The pair played a big part in Colchester expectedly sealing a automatic Championship promotion last time round.

We have an expectancy now, surrounding us and it`s an expectancy that I`ve had from day one,” the manager said when outlining how his side will approach the final assault for honours.

He also acknowledged that Wycombe, stuck no higher than the last four placings all term, must endure a different kind of pressure to the one United are currently experiencing.

I`m looking forward to it; I`m looking forward to Saturday`s game. Things happen in a season like this – it`s never plain sailing. We`re in a really good position. It`s exciting, I think; exciting for you watching it, for me watching it and working in it and for the players, because they are a part of it and for the loyal fans that come out and support us,” he said.
