Any Return For Garmston?

Joe Dunne has revealed that if there is to be any further additions to the U’s squad before the end of the transfer window then it will be another left back.

The departures of Michael Rose, Bradley Garmston and John White left the U’s with a vacancy at left back this summer, until the addition of Ryan Dickson during pre-season filled the hole.

However, his illness going into last weekend’s game with Carlisle meant that Tosin Olufemi had to make his full debut in unfamiliar territory. Despite impressing, it remains a concern for Dunne.

A move for Garmston in the summer was mooted until it is believed that the Baggies decided they would like him in and around their first team set up. However, Dunne also insists that any addition would have to settle for being back up.

Would Garmston be content at being the back up to Dickson having made the left back berth his own just months ago? Here at Vital Colchester we’re not so sure!

‘Left back is the only position where we would do any business for cover,’ Dunne told BBC Essex. ‘Ryan has done exceptionally well and is my first choice, but most want to come in to be first choice and not back up.

‘We had our targets when we were short of a left back and the clubs said we had to wait, although one of those is now playing in the first team so we wouldn’t get him.’
