Colchester have completed a move to bring in former West Ham youngster Kieran Bailey after the teenager did enough during a trial period at the end of last season to earn a contract at the Weston Homes Community Stadium.

Bailey’s arrival has seen the Official Website confirm that this will initially be a ‘development contract’ for the 18-year-old.

Tony Humes was impressed with him from the U21 appearances he made for us last season, and from his time training with the club, with him having ‘high hopes’ for him.

With Bailey coming back into an environment he’s semi-familiar with Humes also feels that this should help him and has challenged him to make the step up into the first-team, which he feels he’s more than capable of doing.

‘We have high hopes for Kieran, he fits in with what we want to do here.

‘We have already had a good look at him and feel he is more than capable of progressing into the first team squad.

‘With him already having trained and played with us, he knows what we want and we know what he can do so he should be able to hit the ground running when we’re back for pre-season training.’

This contract will officially kick in at the start on July when his pre-existing West Ham deal expires, we’ve had plenty of success bringing in players from Upton Park so all being well he’ll be the next!
