First Colchester`s Jamie Cureton was snubbed by his fellow professionals during this season`s vote for the PFA Team of The Year, omitted despite scoring 24 times this season. Now Geraint Williams has been beaten in the managerial stakes by the ballot box.

He was “pipped at the post” during the ceremony which revealed the winner of the League Managers` Association award for Championship Manager of the Year award on Monday evening.

Colchester`s official website revealed that, although second and third places were not revealed at the ceremony in Nottingham, that Geraint came agonisingly close to scooping the prize.

Roy Keane, who won the award for the Championship votes, was recognised for spearheading Sunderland`s rise back to the Premiership as Champions, something made all the more impressive given thier abysmal start after relegation on the lowest points total ever in the league during 2005/6.

According Colchester`s official website, Reading’s Steve Coppell won the overall award as voted for by bosses of all divisions, whilst Russell Slade of Yeovil Town and Danny Wilson of Hartlepool United landed the awards for League One and Two respectively.

Thanks! But if you look at money spent; virtually none, I think Keano had an advantage. Hope we don’t do a Luton!
