Baldwin Makes U’s Exit U-Turn

Colchester United defender Pat Baldwin is set to stay with the U’s after dramatically rejecting a move to Bristol Rovers at the 11th hour.

Despite the U’s agreeing a transfer fee with Rovers, the 27-year-old, who spent a month on loan with the club, turned down the chance to make a full-time move to the Memorial Stadium.

U’s boss Aidy Boothroyd told the EADT: ‘We agreed a fee with Bristol Rovers for Pat, but he was unable to agree personal terms with them.’

The cultered centre-half made a shock return to the U’s squad on Saturday against Norwich City, also coming on as a substitute in the game but, like the rest of the team, failed to impress.

‘I then felt that, with him being a seasoned professional that has been named in Colchester’s team of the decade, he should come back into the fold and just get on with it.

‘I’m not the sort of person who is stubborn and not flexible enough to move on. My view is that, if a player is not going to go, then he stays and does his best for us,’
Baldwin added.
