It was feared Pat Baldwin had played his last ever game for the club after he joined Bristol Rovers on loan for a month today.

The immensely popular centre-back suffered injury in Aidy Boothroyd`s first game and has been unable to command re-selection, with the side performing well, since loan signing Danny Batth arrived as cover.

But club skipper Baldwin is going to get match fitness only, according to the club statement made by Boothroyd to clarify the issue. It came after a report elsewhere suggested he had left with a view to switching full time.

Pat is going out to get match fit, because reserve team football can only get you so far,” the manager explained.

He has served United with distinction for seven years and gained a great crowd following during that time.

Will probably do him some good having been out for a while. Too good a player to let go permanently
