A BBC blog explains that Colchester United beat Macclesfield, Tranmere, Carlisle, Luton and Leicester to the signature of Andy Bond.

In-form hot-shot Bond is the side`s trop scorer so far this season and has proven an inspired addition in an area previously lacking in presonnel. The midfielder arrived after the exit of David Fox to Norwich and a long-term injury for former Watford youngster, John Joe O`Toole.

Bond has so far scored against Plymouth, Sheffield Wednesday, Walsall and Rochdale since starting all five league games of the campeign for the U’s. He was however rested against Sunderland in the League Cup, which says the blog entry highlights his importance to Colchester already.

The player was relased by Crew as a youngster for not covering enough ground but ironically since has been tagged Forest Gump by United`s boss, John Ward in recognition of how much he now runs during games.

Bond, latterly of Barrow, was overlooked by Leicester City in a trial last season, much to the delight of Colchester supporters.
