New Colchester signing Lee Beevers has promised to give everything he`s got after arriving from Lincoln yesterday.

In a BBC Essex Radio telephone interview recorded this morning, Beevers said it was the managerial conviction of boss Paul Lambert as much as anything that convinced him to join.

He officially becomes a U`s player on July 1 and has been given a 2-year-contract.

“It was an easy choice, really, in the end and I`m delighted with the move. Paul Lambert knows what he wants to achieve and he`s going to let nothing stand in his way to actually get where we wants to. He knows where he wants to take the club,” said the 25-year-old.

The defender confirmed that he had indeed rejected an offer from Motherwell in preference to the U`s, saying: “I went up there and met Mark McGee,” said Beevers, who held talks in May after deciding to decline a new contract with the Imps.

“At the time, I was unsure what was going to be happening and a couple of weeks later he actually moved onto Aberdeen. There were a few offers on the table but at the end of the day Colchester was the place where I wanted to go and play my football.’

Beevers explained that Lambert hadn`t told him where he would be playing, nor pledged the player a first-team spot. “I`m a player who wares my heart on my sleeve, giving 110 percent at every opportunity.”

The latest U`s addition began his career with a youth spell at U`s rivals Ipswich Town.

A lot of speculation about him being average. I suppose it’s too late now…! Hope he turns out to be a great signing, he’s young and ready to dig in.
