Big ‘Big` decisions

Barnsley, at Layer Road? Was it all a dream? No, wait? they came up to the Championship with us. Don`t panic, resume eating that slightly odd looking hotdog, it hasn`t got hallucinogens in after all.

The Championship recruitment drive rolls on at Colchester United eh? Mick (inevitably ‘Big Mick`) Harford is Geraint`s new assistant and we`ve got a fitness coach and sport scientist (whatever the heck one of them is), Donough Holohan.

Welcome to the clubs lads.

They`re certainly names to conjure with – one more literally than the other. Fellow message boarders were already reminiscing about Harford`s playing career. Particularly an incident where he clobbered Tony Adams about six feet in the air, once the ref`s back was turned naturally.

And Don O`Hoolahan, sorry, Donough Holohan has a pedigree a Crufts dog would be proud of. If he can join Joe Dunne, Mark Kinsella et al in the ranks of top Irishmen to come through Layer Road it`ll have me reaching for my tricolour and family tree all over again.

Large or supersize?

With his aerial prowess and combative skill I`m sure Mick can relate to ‘Big Chris` Iwelumo. Perhaps still recovering from injury Chris was on the bench up in Birmingham.

If Chris is 100% does he come back into the side? Maybe moving Garcia out wide? Skippy`s hardly short though is he? Do you go for large or supersize?

Last Saturday we looked more than a match for what was, just 3 months ago, a Premiership side. We`ve got proud footballing traditions here. Though they might not always show it, all the players at Layer Road can pass it about and in Kevin Watson we`ve got someone with the nous to unlock the most stubborn defence.

Do we want to play pretty football even if it gets us relegated though? Would you settle for blood and thunder if it meant 21st place or better?

More tricky decisions for the new gaffer to make. At least now he has some to talk to before he decides what`s best. Up the super U`s!
