Departed boss Aidy Boothroyd spoke of an ‘easy decision’ to leave the U’s for Coventry City just hours into his Ricoh Arena reign.

The 38-year-old left the U’s in a surprising move to be confirmed as City’s new boss yesterday afternoon following less than a year in North Essex. Despite Aidy admitting he enjoyed his spell at the Weston Homes Community Stadium, he was quick to agree to a move away.

‘It was an easy decision for me to come here because I really enjoyed my time at Colchester United but there are just some opportunities that are too big to pass up and Coventry City was definitely one of those,’ he told the club’s official website.

He added: ‘The main focus is to do better than we did last year because you have to improve year on year.’

After losing former boss Paul Lamber to Norwich City less than a year ago, U’s chairman Robbie Cowling has seen two managers who he’s backed impressively up and leave without a thought.

The attention now turns to who will next fill the U’s vacant managerial hotseat, with Cowling expecting a decision within three weeks.

“Am I going to jump ship as soon as I can? No, why not? Because I think there`s a job to do here and there`s an obligation to see it through.

I was very loyal at Watford and I had lots of offers to leave. But I didn`t do that because loyalty works two ways”.
