Colchester United manager Aidy Boothroyd described his side’s 4-0 FA Cup victory over Bromley as a ‘thoroughly professional’ performance.

The U’s dismissed the Conference South side, without any trouble, at a packed Courage Stadium in front of over 4,000 fans. Simon Hackney’s fizzing volley and Kayode Odejayi’s bulldozer-like run and finish saw the visitors 2-0 up inside 35 minutes. Playmaker David Fox created two more goals for the U’s, with Clive Platt first meeting his curling corner, before his delicate cross found Steven Gillespie to make it four.

And post-match Boothroyd told the EADT: ‘I thought we were thoroughly professional in everything we did.’

After making early exits from the FA Cup in the past couple of years, the U’s will be glad to have overcome this potential banana-skin.

‘Four nil was probably a bit flattering in the end, but we did play well,’ he added.
