Colchester picked up a second win, from as many games, this pre-season with a convincing win at Brentwood on Tuesday.

When half time arrived it was looking like we could see another repeat of a thrashing we dished out in our opening friendly, which we of course won, eight-nil! But the first half goals couldn’t be added to with us running out four-nil winners in the end, which will do!

Massey helped himself to a couple of goals, including a belter of a volley, with Szmodics and Bonne scoring the others to leave us comfortable at the break.

The second half XI, with all changed at half time, couldn’t add to the scoreline as Brentwood tightened up after the break.

First half line-up – Parrish, Brindley, Kent, Wynter, Briggs, Edwards, Gilbey, Szmodics, Massey, Wright, Bonne.

Second Half line-up – Lewington, Olufemi, James, Eastman, Vincent-Young, Lapslie, Moncur, Lee, Sembie-Ferris, Holman, Porter.

This is another game that Tony Humes will be more than happy with as our preparations for the new season continue. It goes without saying that we’ll have, with respect, tougher tests to come but they all work towards the same goal.

We’ll happily take this four-nil win though!

It was also a game Humes took the opportunity to look at trialists Ollie Lee once again and he went as close to anyone as adding to the goals.
