Well, as far as Sky Bet are concerned anyway!

Colchester’s replacement for Tony Humes, who parted company with the U’s following the defeat to Crewe in midweek – which looked set to be a win! – could well be Richard Hall and John McGreal, which if it was wouldn’t really be a surprise as Robbie Cowling already said he’ll almost certainly be looking to promote from within.

Humes’ former assistant Hall, along with McGreal will be in charge this weekend at Burton with the caretakers ‘in line’ to get the chance on a permanent basis at the Weston Homes Community Stadium.

The caretakers lead the way at 7/2 at the moment with other potential (albeit unlikely) options being Lee Clark at 5/1 and Paul Dickov at 6/1 with Edgar Davids, out of work since leaving Barnet, at 8/1 with former Newcastle boss John Carver. An ‘outsider’ at 22/1 is Stuart Pearce a 22/1.

Sky Bet’s Sandro Di Michele said.

‘Colchester have a history of making internal appointments and this is why we have the two caretaker managers at the front of the market.

‘However, if they did go external there is no shortage of quality candidates. Paul Dickov and Lee Clark could be great appointments should they be up for the challenge of keeping Colchester in Sky Bet League 1.’

I think we can rule most of the names out of the running to become the next boss at the WHCS can’t we!
