COLCHESTER UNITED will come face-to-face with former boss Geraint Williams in the first round of this year’s Carling Cup.

The U’s have been drawn to entertain Leyton Orient at the Weston Homes Community Stadium at the start of next season. It will be the second time U’s chief Paul Lambert has come up against Williams since taking over, the first a 2-1 defeat, but he will be hoping for a better result this time round.

In last years competition the U’s, then managed by Williams, were knocked out in the second round, away to Ipswich. A late strike from record-signing Steven Gillespie proved a consolation goal as the U’s succumbed to a 2-1 defeat.

Although no exact date has been released for the game, it will be during the week commencing 10th August.
