Prospective Colchester United managers were told to pick one central-midfielder from a long-list, ahead of a hopeful deadline-day transfer swoop for the manager-less U’s.

Well, if rumours are to be believed, than U’s interviewees were given the chance to have their say on who they think would be the ideal replacement for departed captain Dean Hammond…

The U’s hierarchy of Robbie Cowling & Co. have interviewed a number of candidates for the Community Stadium hot-seat, thought to be around the half-dozen mark, after narrowing it down from over 30 applicants. And bar the usual ‘interview-type’ questions – a potential replacement in the centre-of-midfield, for Hammond, is believed to have been discussed.

And a certain player (your guess is as good as mine, as to the identity!) is thought have been mentioned among a large percent of the managers.

So despite the U’s being without a manager, and looking like they will as transfer-deadline day passes, don’t rule out any activity just yet…

  • Would LOVE to know A) who helped make this shortlist, B) what your source for the article is and C) Who is on the list! No chance on C, yet! It might be a case of Cowling and JD making up the list and everyone at the game against Leeds getting a look-in. Bit mean on them if they don’t get the job, but then the U’s do have to cover thier own backs!

  • Dont know A. B, like the article states, is from rumours! lol And like you say C – no chance! lol Up the U’s!

  • Rumours are allowed, we are just debating them… is a very good possible topic and one I’m enjoying thinking about!
