Colchester have strengthened their squad in the goalkeeping department, bringing in John Sullivan for a month.

The Charlton keeper, as Joe Dunne told the official website, will give Mark Cousins competition: ‘I am very pleased to bring in John, and we’ve got some good competition for places now.

‘That sort of competition is important for the squad and this will bring out the best in the players we already have.

‘John is a very good goalkeeper who will compete with Mark for that place in the team, and hopefully it will see them push each other on in the time that he’s with us at Colchester.’

The U’s have borrowed the 24-year-old from Charlton, who signed him from Millwall in 2011 following a successful loan spell.

Cousins will now have some quality competition that should push him and Sullivan hard, which will also benefit Colchester, and Charlton, as a result.
