Known Colchester United target Richard Keogh could have been one of “two or three” prospective players telephoned by new boss John Ward yesterday.

The Essex-born defender was already subject to interest from the U`s before Aidy Boothroyd left for Coventry and is considering his Carlisle United future amid interest not only from the Essex side but reportedly also Bristol Rovers and Bristol City.

Ward yesterday said his transfer list of targets would not differ wildly now hehad entered the Colchester hot-seat from what had already been agreed with the former manager.

He told yesterday`s press conference: “We`ve looked at players, along with Andy King and Stuart Grey, who are out regular scouts. We`ve looked at names, we`ve got a list of players.”

Ward has worked with 23-year-old Keogh before, who is stirring up interest through his reluctance to sign a new contract with his current club.

Keogh has also turned out for Wycombe, Huddersfield, Carlisle and Cheltenham during loan spells.
