Club Close In On Final Six: Calderwood Linked

Acting Newcastle United and former Nottingham Forest manager, Colin Calderwood, has been suggested as the newest contender to succeed Paul Lambert.

Currently enjoying a spell alongside Chris Hughton as joint-caretaker, Calderwood previously also coached Northampton town as is the second member of Newcastle`s backroom staff tipped as an applicant. Iain Dowie has also had his name put forward in media circles.

The same newspaper article confirms that the club spent much of the weekend interview prospective appointees, including just one person currently in work, strongly believed to be Paul Buckle. Mark Robbins (Rotherham) and John Still (Dagenham and Redbridge) have both all-but ruled themselves out of the running within the last 24-hours.

U`s owner and Chirman, Robbie Cowling, told the EADT: “The list of candidates who have applied for the job is amazing. I think the calibre of the people who have applied says a lot about our football club.

What has been really nice is that the people who have come forward to register their interest have been of a very high quality.”
