Ex-Manchester United and Blackpool midfielder David Fox said he was persuaded to sign for the U`s because of Paul Lambert`s pure ambition.

“I met him and he sold the club to me very well. He way very specific – he wants to win League One next season,” said Fox, who played alongside Darren Fletcher and Kieran Richardson at youth level for the Red Devils. He also was a roomate of Fletcher’s for four years.

Fox will join United officially on July 1, when his present deal expires.

Boss Lambert has told the BBC today that he sees Fox as a creative foil for the rest of the team`s hard grafters. “We need somebody to pass the bass. We never had somebody to get on the ball and make things happen. We need somebody creative on the ball.”

Fox has signed a three-year contract and moves southwards for the first time in his career. He also leave his famous footballing father at Blackpool.

Fox himself at the start of the week, said: “The ambition is to go up in the right direction and I don’t see this as a backward step. After meeting him [the manager] I wanted to sign.”

The midfielder had the option of another year`s extension but was keen to trade sides once Colchester were in hot pursuit of his signature.
