Another of the Colchester decisions Tony Humes has to make this season will be who takes the captains armband?

Magnus Okuonghae had done this job long-term but his injury that sidelined him for much of last season, and then his summer exit, means this will be passed over permanently and not to David Fox, who returned to the club last season of course to fill the void, after he also moved away to sign for Crewe.

Humes has told the Gazette he’s weighing up various issues but hasn’t yet decided on who this will be.

‘The captaincy is still something to be decided.

‘I think the main thing was for us to add that experience which is invaluable.

‘We saw last season that when we added that experience we were stronger and more organised.’

Chris Porter and Alex Gilbey are both options from last season, whereas new signing Joe Edwards has plenty of previous from captaining former club Yeovil in recent times.

Having return to the U’s this summer fans’ favourite George Elokobi is another that could get this role, so we’ve got some good options available so we’re hardly ‘lacking leaders’ which is a positive!

As is the fact we’ve got plenty for Humes to ponder as to who he does hand this too….

I’m going to say I could see it Elokobi but feel Edwards might just get the nod?
