With Kevin Keen appointing David Wright as his new assistant at Colchester this has seen further changes to the coaching set up, with Steve Ball moving up to work alongside John McGreal at U21 level.

Ball will not only assist U21 boss McGreal he’ll also combine this with his post as Maldon & Tiptree boss, with both roles vacated by Wright now that he’s working alongside Keen.

No stranger to the U’s as the former midfielder has worked within the academy for several years now with him happy to step up another notch, telling the Official Website.

‘It has been a manic few weeks for the club and it was important to have everything back in place as soon as possible. I had a good chat with Robbie and I’m really pleased and excited to be given the opportunity to take on the roles. We have a fantastic crop of players, at all age groups, all wanting to progress and eventually get into the first team and it’s great to be able to work with the ones that are closest to achieving that.’

He finished by talking about his Maldon & Tiptree role too saying he was ‘looking forward to getting stuck into it again.’
