Steven Gillespie will miss Colchester’s trip to Tranmere tomorrow although his injury is not as bad as first feared.

John Ward, as he told the official website, is hopeful that he will be back sooner rather than later after scans confirmed that there is no tear to his hamstring: ‘the scans show there are no severe tears and he shouldn’t be out for long.

‘He felt something against Notts County and we took him off to prevent him causing further damage.

‘We’ve caught it before it developed into something worse and hopefully, we’ll see him back in action sooner because of that.’

With The U’s looking to build on last weekends win at Notts County it is not ideal to have the 26-year-old missing, but it is better to have him only missing in the short-term and not the long-term!
