The weather has won, so Colchester’s entertaining of Sheffield United will have to come at another time, as tomorrow’s match has been called-off.

A pitch inspection today, as the official website confirmed, has seen the pitch deemed unplayable: ‘Colchester United’s game against Sheffield United has been postponed.

Due to current pitch conditions and anticipated weather through the next twenty-four hours, referee Trevor Kettle has called the game off.

He told the official website: “I think it was a very easy decision, there is a 20 metre strip across the pitch where the stand casts a shadow, which is really solid.

“Even stood there now with the temperature at 1 degree, the wind chill factor is making that lower with anticipated sub-zero temperatures tonight and tomorrow morning, the probability of the pitch being playable was very low.

“In the interests of safety, I was of the opinion that the game should be called off.”

All tickets for the game will be valid for the re-arranged fixture and further details will follow in due course.’
