While Colchester United were busy calling a press conference for this afternoon, where it is thought the club will announce the signing of Teddy Sheringham, defender Wayne Brown has handed in a transfer request.
The defensive rock, appearing in every minute of every match in the club`s debut season in the Championship last term, is said in an Evening Gazette report tonight to “want a new challenge.”
The news will be a bombshell to those at Layer Road, who had thought after yesterday`s frenzied transfer activity that the exodus of exits was over for the time being.
However, throughout the season there had been speculation on the terraces that Brown wanted a pay rise, which this Gazette report echoes by stating that talks over a new contract “have failed to reach a satisfactory conclusion.”

Certainly NOT what is needed right now. I hear he has not been happy with the offer n the table for sometime, at least he has shown how proffesional he is not a word in the media or trying to hold the club to ransome as of yet!
Yeah; I hope he sees out his contract really.
I agree Matt I feel he will not though after the piece in the EADT today.
Just read the piece; it is so frustrating. I’m sure the same will happen with Gerken next summer. But roll on 2:30 today, Sheringham is on the way!
I sthe News Conference 2.30pm?
Yes, 2:30 this afternoon.
As an asside, I would like to know who the Championship club are who’ve been denied permission to talk to him. “The boss he wouldn’t stand in my way if I wanted to go.” How anoying! Looks like Baldwin and Doogie and Watson are the only ones who want to stay. Do you suppose Hogan will come if Teddy does?
