Which would still see a familiar face return to Colchester mind!

The U’s appointment was meant to be one that was made from within, which has been the normal procedure in recent times, but Kit Symons set tongues wagging when he was in attendance for the FA Cup win against Altrincham on Sunday.

Then again Chris Coleman was also at the Weston Homes Community Stadium and few will expect the Wales boss to take up the post will they but with Symons recently sacked by Fulham was a former coach alongside former Colchester boss Geraint Williams (he took over in a caretaker capacity briefly in September 2008) could he be the man for the U’s?

Wayne Brown was in charge of that three-two win and is expected to be in the hot seat against Barnsley too, at least.

Ahead of the FA Cup second round tie on Sunday Brown made it clear to the BBC he wants the chance to manage the U’s on a permanent basis, but did say ‘one day.’

‘I’d love an opportunity to manage Colchester, I don’t think that’s any secret. I’m just taking it step-by-step and the remit from the chairman is I can take over for the next two games – and that’s all I am concentrating on.’

Things should become clearer next week but as yet no denial of Symons’ interest has come, then again nor has this confirmation of an interest either!
