COLCHESTER UNITED’S rookie goalkeeper Mark Cousins looks set to extend his stay at the Weston Homes Community Stadium.

The 22-year-old’s contract is set to expire this summer and the U’s have moved for Cousins to pen a new deal. Cousins, a product of the U’s youth system, has featured a number of times since Paul Lambert took over.

The Chelmsford-born stopper told the EADT: ‘I’ll hopefully have something sorted out with the club soon. I’m not that complicated for it to take too long.

‘I’ve been in talks with the manager (Paul Lambert), and he wants me to stay. I should be all signed up in the next week or two.’

Cousins, who spoke to Lambert on Monday about his future, added: ‘We all had our set times to see the manager on Monday, and my chat with him went really well. I’m pleased to be staying at Colchester United, and I’m looking forward to next season.’

So are you glad to see Lambert stay? Or do you not think he’s good enough?
