Robbie Cowling will endeavour to preserver as he aims to propel Colchester United back to the Championship through new manager John Ward.

Talking to BBC Essex Radio after taking Ward as Aidy Boothroyd`s successor, Cowling said he felt the club “belongs” at Championship level, following a three-season absence since the two-year stay starting in 2005-6.

“Everything about the club and the town now is set for us to get in the Championship,” said Cowling yesterday. He said there was a “need to kick” the club forward past the League One tier in order that the club can expand and fill their 10,000-seater stadium more regularly.

Cowling added: “For me to get this club moving on, it really needs something like that [to get a promotion].”

He is certainly signing from the same hymn sheet as many supporters as they wish the new manager John Ward the very best in his job, although the former Cheltenham manager has refused to set any targets for the 20010-11 season.Bookmark and Share
