Cureton Issues Norwich Public Ultimatum

Jamie Cureton has issued Norwich City a “play me or sell me” ultimatum in today`s Eastern Daily Press.

Infamously conducting his transfer of two years ago from Colchester to Carrow Road in the public eye, Cureton has now told the media he doesn`t know if his future lies with the club he so openly idolises.

He essentially stated that if he is not a first-team player during 2009/10, he is prepared to walk away before his current contract expires at the end of the new season.

The City striker and former United hero was dropped last season my ex-manager Glenn Roeder and Cueton was sensationally linked with a return to the U`s, much to the ambivalence of fans who still smart over the striker`s comments upon leaving in 2007.

Cureton accused the club of “lacking ambition” in failing to keep several of the squad who had just narrowly missed out on the Championship play-offs in Essex.

There are echoes of that discontentment here: “I’m at an age now where I want to play as much as possible,” said Cureton. “It’s not like I’m 21 and with my whole career ahead of me.”

“I’m in the last year of my contract and the last thing I need is to have a season like I did last year and then suddenly be out of contract. That’s no good to me.”

Despite adding apparently adding fuel to his own fire, Cureton said he still expects to be a Norwich player by the time the new season kicks off with a derby against his old club.

Colchester will face Norwich comparatively for the first time since he netted a hat-trick to all-but condemn the U’s to a League One relegation.
