Former Colchester striker Jamie Cureton is looking forward to his return to Layer Road since he left at the end of last season to join Norwich

Norwich are entertained at Layer Road this weekend a game which is to be shown Live on Sky TV, and the former fans favourite knowing that the home crowd will be on his back from the start says a goal would be the perfect way to keep them quiet.

Cureton who left citing Colchester’s ‘Lack of Ambition’ (which was short for Norwich offered more money) as his reason for leaving in the summer after stating that he had no intention to leave Layer Road at the end of last season.

Speaking to the ‘Pink’un’ paper Cureton said,’It would be good to score, I have missed a couple of late and it would be a nice time to get back to goal scoring and down there it would be great’.

‘I obviously have a closeness to the club, but my allies lie with Norwich now and if I could get a goal and help us win then that would be great.’

Adding,’I’m sure I’m going to get stick it’s nice to be going into it above them so they can’t give me too much’.

‘It is a tough game – they are a better side at home than they are away so it’s going to be tough. They are obviously going to want to beat us to go back above us and it is a chance for us to push a team away from us and get a few points clear of them.

‘Obviously I have a tie to the club and I am looking forward to going back down there, but hopefully we can take three points off them.

‘We can go down there knowing that if we do win we pull away from them, but it is going to be tough because they are chasing us and they don’t want to be stuck there for too long. If we can come out winning it is another step forward to trying to get a bit closer to safety.’
