Seasoned football supporters are predicting that Colchester United will be on the verge of experiencing a bidding war over Jamie Cureton, who made a transfer request a week ago, over the next few days.

Since sighting Colchester United`s apparent “lack of ambition” as the reason for his request, there appear to have been no formal enquieries about the 2006-7 Championship top scorer.

Cureton, 31, has since been talked about seriously by one clubs directly – Ipswich Town.

‘I believe Southampton are very interested and we would also have some other irons in the fire, but we would keep abreast of the Jamie Cureton situation,’ Town`s Jim Magilton told the EADT last week.

Following that, Hull (as reported in last Sunday`s People) were supposedly lining up a bid, while Vital Plymouth have also generated speculation on their website.

The other sides strongly linked are Charlton, West Brom, Southampton (who rejected him as a youngster) and former favourite side Norwich. The fee for Cureton, who has a year remaining on his contract, would be between 750 K and £1.5 million.

Meanwhile, voting is currently split at 50/50 over wheather he will go or stay?
