With the transfer deadline door slamming shut at midnight last night, Colchester Manager Geriant Williams can be happy that he has kept hold of the highly rated Greg Halford, well at least until January.

Halford believed to have been on the shopping list of many Premiership Clubs will be staying at Layer Road for the near future at least.

It was important for the club to hold onto its best players, probably negating the need to sign a player or two to replace an undoubted talent such as Halford.

Manager Geriant Williams told the Colchester Official site (www.cu-fc.com),’We are delighted that we still have Greg Halford available to us.’

‘The fact that he didn’t leave the club before the window closed is a sign of intent by the club that we intend to maintain our Championship status.

‘Greg has been sensational in the last two matches and if he continues in that vein of form, then some big clubs will certainly be looking to sign him in the future.’

With the arrival of former Everton, QPR and Swansea winger Kevin McLeod this week and with the signings of loans players becoming possible after the 8th, Manager Geriant Williams will have the players at his disposal to ensure survival in The Championship this season.
