Ben Gordon is the latest Colchester player, on our books last season, that we now know has played his last game for the club with the arrival of former Fulham and Millwall man Matthew Briggs heralding his exit.

Gordon was signed on a two-year contract by former U’s manager Joe Dunne last summer but under Tony Humes the left back struggled for a regular place in the side and was limited to just 20 first-team appearances.

The arrival of Briggs on loan from Millwall limited his chances even more and with Briggs now a permanent fixture at the Weston Homes Community Stadium the defender would have even more of a fight on his hands.

As a result it’s been mutual agreed that it’ll be best for all concerned that he moves on so the final year of his contract has been cancelled to allow him to seek pastures new for the coming season at a club he can play regularly for.

Fair play to Gordon he didn’t have to end his agreement as he could have seen out his contract but he, as footballers should, wants to play regularly so he can now seek a club where this will happen and good luck to him in this quest.
