Defiant Paul Lambert yesterday promised to “rebuild” Colchester United ready for a League One challenge next season.
The Scotsman was asked if Peterborough United`s promotion success brought into focus what he believed the U`s should be achieving come 2009/10.
The manager responded: “Yeah. As I said before, I`m not going to put up with not trying properly, mediocrity. Next year, we have to rebuild this club. They [Peterborough] are better than us; as their league position shows.”
It is well-known now that Lambert will make many signings in the next few weeks, with as many as ten expected. That became clear when he recently admitted there was only a “nucleus” of consistent performers at the club.
“We have some talented footballers,” said Lambert on thebe. “But their work-rate could be a lot higher than what it is.
Peterborough are better than us, I`m not going to lie to people. If the players don`t want to come with me, they can go.”
Was Lambert right with what he said at full-time?
