Neil Danns has ended any hope that he might return to Colchester United by defiantly declaring in the Birmingham Mail that his future lies with current employers, now Premiership side Birmingham City.

The 24-year-old attacking midfielder was reportedly a target of League One side Nottingham Forest after Colin Candlewood showed interest, U`s fans were hopeful that their club would also enter the bidding if it became clear that he wanted to leave St. Andrews.

While in a poll on this website showed 38% of voting U’s fans thought optimistically that he might return, a furthur 36% showed realism by being mindful of the sheer cost involved in bringing the dynamo back to Layer Road.

“I joined a big club. It’s not always going to be smooth running,” Danns told the Birmingham Mail in a frank interview last week on Wednesday.

“The competition for places is going to be greater than where I came from.”

The former U`s midfielder, who scored 17 times during the club`s 2005/6 promotion season, explained that he is very much enjoying life under Steve Bruce after the euphoria of helping Birmingham return to the top-flight after just one season of Championship football.

The admission comes from Danns depite the fact that he was sent off for fighting toward the end of the campeign.

“I don’t know what the gaffer is thinking but I’ve still got quite a few years left on my contract and in my mind I’m looking forward to next season and pushing for a place and proving myself,’ added Danns.

“I’m not thinking about moving.”
