The U`s latest signing, goalie Ben Williams from Carlisle, told the BBC he has promotion ambitions next season.

Williams, who cost an initial £70,000, said: ‘It’s a team that looks like it’s geared for a good promotion push this year. It’s what the manager wants, it’s what all the staff want and what the players want.’

He also admitted there was a stage, after striker Scott Vernon pulled out of negotiations as a possible makeweight in the deal, that he feared the move might not happen.

The stopped was relieved to join as a replacement for Dean Gerken, recently transferred to Bristol City.

‘I`m really happy. It`s been a bit up and down, it can be quite difficult. When the swap deal fell through, that was when I thought maybe it wasn`t to be. Thankfully, the manager Paul Lambert really wanted me,’ he added.

He leaves a Carlisle side currently in Colchester for a pre-season training camp.

So do agree with the new goalie?
