Ah well, that was fun… while it lasted! Paul Lambert has this afternoon denied he`s in the running to take change at Premiership Burnley, despite emerging yesterday as a landslide bet-shop favourite.

Pah, what do the punters know! Lambert explained how much he “loved it” at Norwich City but in usual tight-lipped press conference style during the interview, added: “I`ve got a great rapport with the people, this football club [Norwich] is a special place. I`m not going anywhere.

Presumably, it means a lot of money will be lost, potentially, on punts for Owen Coyle’s successor after he took the Bolton Wanders job this week.

The ambitious Lambert also tempered his reputation as a premature quitter of previous sides managed, saying circumstances in each case at Wycombe and Colchester presented themselves there and then.

It would appeal to everybody – all you need to know is I`m staying here,” Lambert explained when asked if he were tempted by the prospect of top-flight management.

The link, reported by last evening`s Daily Mail online and across many message boards, had fans around East Anglia all-of-a-flutter on two counts. First, because Lambert is only on a rolling contract with City and second because Colchester followers were supposing what a delicious irony it would be to see Norwich without a manager for their upcoming derby in Essex, on January 16.

He left the club in August after just 312 days in Essex and a 7-1 opening day win during the first game of the season as U’s boss at Carrow Road, but insisted: “If you turn down a Premier League club to stay in League One they may just give you a wee bit more credit than people think. I’m not going anywhere until maybe Norwich sack me.”

Doing the Lambert walk? Apparently, all bets are off!

Interesting. However, if Burnley identify him as a managerial target and make an approach: then who knows?!?

Some very interesting quotes coming out of City but I reckon it’s a no-go. Fun fantasy, however!

It would seem very logical for him to go to burnley because he still lives in scotland it would be closer to home. it also puts his name on a bigger map meaning if the celtic job or any job of his intrest became avalible he would be more known and a bigger target not only that Burnley claim to be a debt free club (unlike norwich ’23million’) Also with his rolling contract he would be able to leave and not have Burnley pay compo Leaving Norwich strapped for cash and for a manager. Them again this could cause colchester problem ie ARE COMPENSATION!! because even at the moment all norwich can offer us is one of dellia smiths bloody cooked penguins – unless colchester win the court case meaning we would compensation even if it means Norwich HAVE to go into adminstration and lose pionts
