Joe Dunne strengthened his U’s squad a little further yesterday afternoon as he made his second loan addition from Chelsea, bringing in goalkeeper Sam Walker on loan until the end of the current campaign.

21-year-old Walker is six foot five inches and made eleven League Two appearances for Bristol Rovers at the beginning of this season, now managed by John Ward, whilst he also had a spell on loan at Yeovil last year.

Those two spells followed similar loan moves to both Barnet and Northampton since moving to Chelsea from Millwall in November 2007.

With only Scunthorpe, Hartlepool and Carlisle having conceded more goals than the U’s this season and with Joe Dunne having previously brought in John Sullivan on a short-term deal, it is clearly an area that the manager feels needs strengthening.

The big shot-stopper is, unfortunately, a lifelong Ipswich Town fan but I’m sure that we won’t be holding that against him!

Meanwhile, Robbie Cowling has told U’s fans to expect two or three new signings before this weekend’s game with Hartlepool, so we’re all eagerly anticipating news of further additions.
