A report out in today`s EADT describes Pat Baldwin as “unaware” that Aidy Boothroyd has publically relegated him to U`s-reserve status, effectively placing him on the transfer list.

The 27-year-old is officially club skipper but, since being loaned to Bristol Rovers at the end of 2009, has somewhat surprisingly been deemed surplus to current requirements and earmarked for departure.

What`s more, Rovers recently bid to take Baldwin out of Essex on a full-time basis; he returned to training last Monday with Colchester, however, after they failed to meet United`s valuation.

The club now say all they are waiting for is an “acceptable offer.”

It seems hard to square all that widely-reported action, then, with the rather tenuous claim that the player himself is oblivious to speculation, even if he has yet to been informed fully over his future because negotiations have stalled.

Unfortunately I’ve not yet had the chance to sit down with Pat yet,” said the Colchester boss, speaking on Thursday morning. He added that the situation called for honesty, since Boothroyd thinks Baldwin deserves more tan to be “just sitting on a coach every week.”

Although Baldwin`s advocates suggested he may get a second-chance to impress the manager after Colchester`s F.A. Cup capitulation at Preston North End last weekend, the stance has apparently not changed.

Today`s update reiterates how the former Chelsea trainee is still last-place in a revised selection order, following the player`s September injury and subsequent fall from grace.

an unacceptable state of affairs and if true, not the way to instill confidence in a player or the rest of the staff.

If Nobby solano is genuinely going to sign and he show half of what he is capable of, then you have got a bargain and a great player.

Thanks for the comments, Buzz, although think you may have got mixed-up posting the second one! I am personally a fan of Baldwin’s, but I just wanted to pick up on the reporting. The player MUST to he is selected to go – no quotes from him to say otherwise!

lol @ Buzz! 😀 Personally my choice for centre-backs would be: Reid>Magnus>Baldwin>Batth>Heath

I agree with those selections, Steve. Perhaps Nobby would play at full-back as well, which would explain Boothroyd’s willingness so offload Baldwin.
