A report in today’s East Anglian Daily Times speculates that two former Charlton players with a Colchester connection could be in line to succeed now Norwich City boss, Paul Lambert.

The local paper confirms the U`s had a lengthy meeting yesterday to discuss potential candidates – already over 30 in number – and suggests that both Matt Holland and Mark Kinsella may fit their bill, although it is not known if either has actually applied.

Holland, who trained with Colchester during the summer, ironically replaced Kinsella long-term at the Valley in the early 00s. He is currently without a club, having been released five days ago by Charlton, but has since featured as a soccer pundit on American broadcast station, ESPN.

Kinsella, meanwhile, continues to coach alongside former Colchester manager Phil Parkinson in League One, having always maintained himself flattered by a proposed future return.

Both Holland and Kinsella represented Republic of Ireland at international level, partnering in central midfield during World Cup 2002. Holland stepped up after the surprise exit of Ipswich Town manager, Roy Keane, from the squad.

Some U`s fans had already suggested they might consider even working alongside each other again, this time as coaches for Colchester United.

Well seems a bit speculative. Would prefer Holland as a player-caoch rather than manager.

Well, maybe Kinsella as manager and Holland as his assistant? It was almost pure speculation from the EADT but so hard to split between that and news sometimes! If you look at the idea, it’s a really bad one! Ok, so Kinsella would get fan support but, well.. soon that might change to chants of: “You don’t know what you are doing!” This won’t happen – what’s the point of getting these two in on big wages when Joe Dunne, already here, has about the same level of experience as them combined? This would be a very bad idea, if, as seems unlikely, either or both even went for the job.

I think there are a lot of better ways to please the fans than appoint a fan favourite- i for one hope they stay well clear! I agree, with Stevie G- I’d definately prefer getting Holland in as a player coach
