Rangers` veteran defender Ugo Ehiogu has admitted that he may have to leave the Glasgow giants, in search of first-team football.

If he was to become available in the January transfer window, surely Colchester United manager Geraint Williams would consider him as an option to help ease the U`s defensive worries.

The Layer Road side have conceded twenty-three league goals so far this season, one of the worst defensive records around in the Championship, keeping only one clean sheet.

United`s back-four is very inexperienced, causing some fans to call for a more experienced defender to be brought in.

Ehiogu, 34, has only started once for Rangers so far this season, following an Achilles injury during the summer. If the former England international, signed from Middlesbrough last January, was to leave the SPL side, U`s manager Williams could possibly mull over a move for the experienced central defender.

Ehiogu told Sky Sports News recently: “Leaving this club would be a major, major blow because I love playing football here.”

“But I have to balance that out with playing and my age and it`s a difficult balance to achieve.” he added.
