Don`t quite call it fever pitch, but England Under-21 manager, Stuart Pearce has been heaping praise onto Colchester United`s Weston Homes Community Stadium ahead of this afternoon`s international.

The one-time Manchester City manager says the surface is in “great nick,” praise indeed following summertime where the ground`s turf was relayed, at the expense of any off-season friendly matches in Essex.

We`re pleased to be here. Everywhere we`ve been in the country, there`s been great support. We`ve sold stadiums out and this one,” he told the Colchester Gazette in build-up to the fixture.

The young England side faces Lithuania needing a win and favorable results to stand a hope of reaching the play-offs for European Championship qualifying.

Steve Brue also said he will field a strong XI when United come calling, especially since he is looking for a prolonged run in the League Cup competition.

The Essex side`s best showing in the competition, according to a BBC stat, came in 1975 as round five was reached.
