Forgotten Ifil Travels West

For the first time in a long while (please, don’t ask me the exact figures!) defender Phil Ifil has been named part of Colchester United’s matchday squad.

The £250,000 buy from Tottenham Hotspur, in January 2008, failed to feature regularly under former boss Paul Lambert – come to think of it I cant recall him ever playing! He was completely frozen out by the Scotsman, along with several other squad members.

However, after being confirmed as U’s manager, Aidy Boothroyd declared that every U’s player would have a clean slate and be given a fair chance to force themselves back into the fray.

And it appears that Ifil, a right-sided full-back by trade, who impressed in a midweek reserve-team fixture, has grasped his chance with both hands. The 22-year-old is part of the U’s squad which travels West ahead of tomorrow’s tough test with Swindon Town.

Experienced left-back Matt Lockwood and young striker Jamie Guy also travel with the rest of Boothroyd’s squad, for the game against the Robins.
