Craig Eastmond’s time with Colchester came to an end on Monday, not with a new club secured on transfer deadline day but with his contract cancelled….

The official website confirmation came that it had been decided that his future, ultimately, would be away from the Weston Homes Community Stadium so to give him the best chance to secure this an exit from his contract was mutually agreed.

Eastmond initially came to the U’s on a loan spell from Arsenal in 2012, this was highly successful before injury meant he had to return to the Emirates Stadium, he did join us permanently in the summer of 2013 on a two-year-contract bit with this expiring in the summer, and Tony Humes unable to offer him regular first-team football he’s moved on.

The 23-year-old has been looking increasingly likely to leave the WHCS recently and with just six-months left on his contract allowing him to become a free agent before the January transfer window closed enables him to find a new club at any time – he of course leaves with the clubs and Humes’ best wishes.

Humes said: ‘After discussions, it was felt that it would be best for Craig to look elsewhere for first team football and we wish him all the best for the future.’
