Joel Thomas looks set to become the next new face joining Colchester United, with his transfer close to completion.

Thomas, of Hamilton Academical, is believed to have undergone a medical at the Weston Homes Community Stadium after traveling South from Scotland.

Although having netted only one goal last season for the SPL side, U’s chief Paul Lambert has offered Thomas a 3-year contract in North Essex. The 22-year-old had a trial at Premiership side Wigan Athletic 12-months ago.

Thomas’s agent, Sebastien Thiery, confirmed: ‘A fee has been agreed and he is now at Colchester having a medical.

‘He is set to sign a three-year contract and he is looking forward to playing for Colchester.’

The U’s agreed a fee for Thomas in the last couple of days, with his Accies striking partner Richard Offiong also a target. However, rumours are rife that Offiong has rejected a move to the U’s, click here.
