Friendship, Football, Fans

Reports of 5,000 Mackems travelling to the game without tickets could have put the fear up anyone, extra Police, a prison Van and Police officers dressed ready for any crowd trouble that might ensue from todays proceedings.

After what was the biggest game of the season so far, one of the things that has stuck in my mind other than what was a great game of football, and the result, was the mutal respect the fans had for each other. The friendship and football was an advert that many would do well to heed.

Not since our 9-1 demolition of Leamington in the FA Cup a couple of season ago have I witnessed such a scene, I was walking down Layer Road when a hand on my shoulder was followed by ‘I really hope you go up’, we had a brief conversation which finished in the shaking of each others hands.

Their was of course due to our limited capacity away fans in home areas, mingling, chatting and respecting their home counterparts.

Personaly I hope they go on to win the Championship, they are friendly, passionate and support a real club, a club which plays football as it should be, I have nothing but respect for them they are credit to their club.

Colchester will always be my team but along with Leamington I will have a soft spot for Sunderland and wish them the very best of luck.
