Colchester United manager Geraint Williams has spoke of his delight after securing the services of Steven Gillespie and David Perkins.
Gillespie joins from Cheltenham Town for a club record fee in excess of £400,000, while Perkins arrives from Rochdale for an undisclosed fee.
Williams told CU-FC.com: ‘After a weekend of discussions between all the relevant parties, I was delighted that we were able to secure the signings of David and Steven on Monday afternoon.
Williams On Perkins
‘We watched David a few times in a successful season at Rochdale.
‘As well as having bundles of energy, he is a very good footballer. He can also play a number of positions across the whole of the midfield.’
Williams On Gillespie
‘Steven scored a hell of a lot of goals as a youngster and was unlucky that the manager who signed him at Bristol City left shortly after Steven went there.
‘After a bit of a struggle at Bristol, he really found his feet at Cheltenham and proved that by scoring sixteen goals for them last season.’
