Colchester United goalkeeper Dean Gerken has today revealed he wants to be the first goalie to play between the sticks in the U’s new stadium.

With the U’s set to depart Layer Road in the summer, Gerken said how he wants make history and be the first keeper to feature at Cuckoo Farm.

The young stopper had been linked with a move away from North Essex, with West Ham a speculated destination, but he admitted he had not heard anything.

‘Even if there was any truth in the rumours, I would not have heard anything,’ he told The Colchester Gazette.

‘I don’t take any notice of anything that goes on until the end of the season.

‘My job at the end of the day is at Colchester United and I have to do my job.

‘Whatever goes on between the club and other clubs, I don’t know anything about,’ he added.

‘Personally, I have not heard anything about it.

‘At the end of the season we will sit down and whatever happens will happen but I don’t know.’

The 22-year-old went on: ‘I want to be saying I want to be in the new stadium next year and playing for Colchester United’.

‘We have a new stadium next year and I want to be the first goalie to play in that stadium.

‘It is history that we will be making next year and I want to be a part of it.’
